Project Description:RS&H CS won a major CEI project administering the construction and engineering management of the new $48.5 million segmental fly-over bridge in FDOT District Two. The I-295/I-95/SR 9A Interchange enhancements (North) in Jacksonville, Florida will start in August of 2007 and is scheduled for completion by February 2010. This will be the only segmental structure currently under construction in the State of Florida, making it a high profile and very publicly scrutinized project. The team represents some of the best and brightest engineering talent in Florida, including RS&H CS’s subconsultants Civil Services, Inc. and Ghiotto & Associates, Inc., who competed fiercely among the seven prequalified firms to win the job. The majority of the work involves the new construction of a two-lane, 2,500-foot segmental bridge fly-over ramp from southbound I-95 to eastbound I-295. Additionally, the I-295 Bridge over US17 will be widened from the eastbound side with concrete beams and structural steel girders. Major roadway work includes concrete pavement, edge-drain installation, new retaining walls, paving Superpave traffic levels C & D, applicable drainage throughout the structures, utility adjustments over the entire jobsite, rewiring the high-mast lighting and replacing all highway signing systems. Challenges overcome were the extra hours worked by all members of the project proposal team; the extensive training taken all over the United States to become qualified in the necessary aspects of post-tensioning, grouting and casting yard measurements; arranging for engineers and inspectors from across the company to relocate closer to the jobsite; and presenting the proposal to a panel of certified experts for an exhaustive interview. Throughout the project life, RS&H CS will be coordinating the concerns of the FDOT, the public and the designer (Parsons Brinckerhoff- one of the most noted engineering firms in the State of Florida) in order for this bridge to be built swiftly and professionally. This is the first major phase of improvements to the interchange area. Additional work phases are expected to last over the course of the next ten years. This project is the fourth CS segmental bridge project awarded in the last seven years, solidifying RS&H CS’s position as a leader in Florida’s segmental bridge industry. |
