Project Description:

The improvements under this contract consist of milling and resurfacing of the mainline, interchange and rest area ramps, the replacement of all the edgedrain, guardrail, signs, pavement markings, deer fence and the construction of new median guardrail on Interstate 10 in Jackson County, Florida. In addition, this is the first project in the district to utilize potassium chloride injection to mitigate the heave associated with expansive clay layers. The process consists of drilling a series of holes through the pavement and inserting high pressure injection probes at two-foot intervals. At each interval, a solution is injected which saturates the clay layer with potassium chloride and prevents the further expansion in the area.
